Concussion & PCS Treatment in Victoria, BC
Rediscover Life Beyond Concussion
Experiencing persisting concussion symptoms or post-concussion syndrome (PCS)? If you are struggling with dizziness, headache, blurry vision, mood changes, difficulty concentrating, and more... you need an OT! Occupational therapy can support you to get back to feeling more like yourself again. We balance tools to make life easier today alongside progressive exercises to get you back to what you need & want to do in the long run.
Wondering What to Expect?
Your 1-hour occupational therapy assessment is all about getting to know YOU - who you were before this concussion, and how you're doing now. We want to know what is standing in the way of doing what you need or want to do!
Occupational therapy is highly practical and function-focused. Your OT will ask you about:
Your Symptoms - how bad they get, what makes them better, how often they show up - this often gives us clues as to how to best tackle each symptom!
Your Daily Function - we get into the nitty gritty of showering, doing laundry, cooking dinner, and going grocery shopping - what makes these things hard for you?
Your Work or School - we get to know key details about your work or school to inform personalized preliminary exercises all the way through to work simulation and GRTW planning!
Your Goals - where do you want to go? what's most important to work on first? You will leave with an individualized treatment plan to get you where you want to go!
Your OT will also guide you through a cognitive assessment and visual-vestibular screening to further inform your treatment plan and any referrals to local experts like vestibular physiotherapists, neuro-optometrists, and specialists.
Why Choose Us?
Our assessment & treatment is built around the 5 evidence-based pillars:
Cognition/Fatigue - feeling exhausted, difficulty finding your words, forgetting things, losing track in conversation, brain fog
Migraine/Headache - headache upon waking, headache coupled with sensory sensitivity and/or nausea, headache with neck pain or behind the eyes
Vision - limited screen tolerance, eye strain, pain behind the eyes, blurry vision, double vision, difficulty watching fast movement, difficulty with peripheral motion (e.g. grocery aisles, driving)
Anxiety/Mood - constant worrying, feeling overwhelmed or panicked, struggling to enjoy things you used to, sadness, low mood, hopelessness about recovery
Vestibular - fast-spinning dizziness, "on a boat" wave-like sensations, balance & coordination difficulties
Plus, we address the critical domains known to hinder concussion recovery if let untreated, such as of Neck Pain and Sleep.
